Effective business card guidelines
High-quality business cards really are a jack of all trades. They simultaneously fulfil a range of business requirements, including networking, advertising, brand recognition and calls to action. However, this fulfilment is dependant upon amazing design. Therefore, in this post, DigitalPrintingIreland.ie offers effective business card guidelines to aid in the creation process.
Why are business cards important?
As touched upon in the introduction, business cards serve as extremely helpful and versatile tools. When designed in such a way that it is aesthetic and rich with information, business cards offer significant benefits to proprietors and customers alike. They’re great for handing out at corporate events, such as trade shows and exhibitions, in order to foster brand awareness. What’s more, not only do they provide customers with essential contact details, they can be handed out to their friends and family in a bid to increase referrals and word-of-mouth advertising.
How to design a business card
Below is a list of our effective business card guidelines that will aid in the creation process.
Choose your size and shape
The size and shape of your business card are integral to the final product you wish to achieve. At DigitalPrintingIreland.ie, we offer a range of sizes, including 55x55mm, 85x55mm, 90x50mm, 90x55mm and folded 170x50mm. All sizes are available in both portrait and landscape orientation, with square or round cornering. For the typical business card shape, we recommend 85x55mm in landscape orientation with square corners.
Choose your paper style and stock
Paper styles and stocks must be chosen in accordance with your brand’s core values. DigitalPrintingIreland.ie offers multiple paper styles, such as premium uncoated and silk, the latter of which we recommend on account of its printability and dot definition. To add a sense of opulence, we have a range of luxury papers available that will enhance your brand’s reputation. Paper stock (or thickness) will have a bearing on the overall quality, and as such, we recommend at least 400gsm.
Choose your lamination
By laminating your business cards, you will add to their resistance against wear and tear, bolster the vibrancy of colours and images and further their professional appeal. Both matt and gloss lamination are available at DigitalPrintingIreland.ie. Matt lamination achieves a soft, muted and contemporary effect, whereas gloss lamination adds an aesthetic glimmer and shine.
Upload your artwork
Your artwork consists of any business logos, images and text to be included on your business cards. To ensure your text looks the best it can be, we ask that all text is kept to a minimum of 7pts and, if supplying black text, ensure it is set to 100% black (0/0/0/100) to help ward off any registration issues and give a nice crisp result. When uploading, Make sure you extend your background colour into the 3mm bleed area, otherwise you might end up with a thin white border!
